My name is Commander Paul Irving, and I was extremely proud to take Command of HMS MONTROSE (Port Crew) at the end of March 2021. As you know, MONTROSE is the Royal Navy’s forward-deployed Type 23 frigate and we are constantly involved in high-profile Maritime Security Operations alongside international partners in the Middle East, rotating every 4 months with our sister crew (Starboard Crew). During our regular periods away from home, we rely heavily on the support of you all – our families and friends – to keep us going. I very much consider you all to be part of our team, and I hope that this new forum will prove to be a useful way of keeping you up to date with what we are doing, and also a place that signposts useful resources. You can continue to follow us on Twitter (@HMSMontrose) and participate in our Facebook members’ group, but this forum offers a more secure channel for me to communicate with you while we are deployed. I promise that I will keep you informed about any changes to the ship’s programme whenever possible within the bounds of operational security - as a husband and parent myself, I know how difficult it is when there is uncertainty about what your loved ones are doing or there are changes to when they will be home.
