What they do, and what they are prepared to do in the line of duty, genuinely matters. I am very aware though of the demands that military service places on families, ever more so given recent restrictions due to the global pandemic. The sacrifices required by military life can be unexpected and can feel dislocated from life at home. That said, the nature of service also creates a strong sense of community. The Royal Navy firmly recognises the immense support that our people receive from their families, and there is a network of support available to you. I believe that the families of my ship’s company are a core component of our fighting power, and I consider communicating with you to be one of my top priorities.
